Convert a WebP
- Drop one or more .webp images.
- Set the JPG quality. If the image has transparency, pick the background color that should replace it.
- Click Convert to JPG.
- To keep transparency instead, set the output format to PNG before you convert. That is the WebP to PNG path on this same page.
Why so many files are WebP
WebP, introduced by Google, is smaller than JPG or PNG at a similar look, often by about a quarter. Sites use it so pages load faster, which is why Save image as now often produces a .webp file.
Current browsers display it. Older editors, some photo printers, upload forms, and office apps still reject it. JPG remains the file that opens almost everywhere. PNG is the better choice when the image has a transparent background you need to keep, such as a logo or a sticker.
Limits worth knowing
- An animated WebP becomes a still image. Only the first frame is kept.
- JPG has no transparency. The color you pick fills those areas. PNG keeps them.
- Saving a compressed image again adds a little loss. Quality 90 keeps that small.
- Only convert pictures you have the right to use.
